TL;DR tabletop game review of 7 Wonders expansion 7 Wonders: Cities
The 7 Wonders: Cities expansion adds the mechanics of debt and diplomacy to 7 Wonders. Players can lose money and find themselves in debt. If you need to pay something and you’ve got no coins in the coffers, uh oh it’s a debt token for you. These essentially remove victory points to the tune of 1 for 1.
The other new element is that of diplomacy. Essentially this is a get out of conflict free card. You’re one smooth talker on the floor of the senate, or the street, if you’ve got a diplomacy token you can play it to abstain from conflict (you cheeky little tyrant you), leaving others to knife one another without your involvement.
As expansions go this isn’t too bad, 7 Wonders: Cities does the job of bringing some new game elements into the mix, including those stated above, but also an 8-player team game variant. It does this without over complicating an already fantastic game. Should you buy it? Sure if you love 7 Wonders why not. Is it a must buy, probably not because 7 Wonders is so great on its own.
7 Wonders Cities… intrigue and back-stabbing.
