Tabletop / board game news of the week! April 4-10 2016

We’re back (as we are EVERY Friday) with your tabletop game news of the week. This week though you’ll notice something different, you’ve got the choice of reading it, or watching it. That’s right, we’ve launched the news round-up as a video series.

In other Gameapalooza Australia news, we’ve also managed to snag an awesome video reviewer, someone we guarantee is different to EVERY other tabletop game reviewer out there. More on that soon! For now though, let’s get to the news.

Labyrinth: The Board Game – out mid year
More news on that upcoming "Labyrinth" board game from River Horse. "Labyrinth: The Board Game" is set for a release later this year. If you missed out social media coverage about this one it's looking really nice, 5 beautiful character minis and on overall great look. We'll definitely give you the heads up as the release of this one approaches, great to see the official announcement it will definitely be out mid year.

Dice Masters Doctor Strange
In September Marvel Dice Masters will see the addition of Doctor Strange with the Doctor Strange Theme Pack expansion. The new set adds 24 cards and 16 dice to proceedings. The Dice Masters Civil War expansion is set to release next month.

Matagot’s Captain S.O.N.A.R for US release
Roberto Fraga's "Captain Sonar" (actually “Captain S.O.N.A.R”) is headed to North America with Asmodee NA releasing the underwater combat title stateside later this year. A 2-8 player game in which players try and rule deep-sea mining. It's Matagot and they are generally known for quality, so fingers crossed.

Dark Souls board game coming to Kickstarter
Steamforged Games is working with Bandai Namco developing a board game set in the Dark Souls (video game) universe. The game will hit Kickstarter this month.

Charterstone legacy board game
“Charterstone” was briefly announced by Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games. Players build up a village and all players benefit from that village’s creation. Not a lot of info on this one, but he referred to it as a 'legacy game' which we found interesting. The official announcement goes out in a few weeks.

Nantucket whaling game announced
Dice Hate Me, err Greater Than Games.. okay.. both are set to release "Nantucket", a two-player game based on whaling, yes, whaling. It's got a cheap USD RRP of just $9.95, so expect $20-$27 here.

USAopoly releasing all the things
Another week, more ‘USAopoly licenses various big names for release’. "Super Mario Bros. Monopoly" is, well you know what it is. "Clue: Game of Thrones" is Cluedo with a Game of Thrones theme, nice touch on this one is a double sided board. Lastly Star Trek is set to get two new titles: "Risk: Star Trek 50th Anniversary Edition" and "Trivial Pursuit: Star Trek 50th Anniversary". Next!

3 Is a Magic Number
"3 Is a Magic Number" releases May 25 from Portal Games. A new expansion for the popular "Imperial Settlers" game, "Imperial Settlers: 3 Is a Magic Number" adds 67 new cards, you can see more info here as we covered it in full this week.

Spotted on Kickstarter this Week

Multi game Pyramid Arcade from Looney Labs
Looney Labs officially announced "Pyramid Arcade" this week (though they actually showed this and discussed it in depth at GAMA). "Pyramid Arcade" features 22 games in one box and is now on Kickstarter, so check it out. When it gets its retail release it's set for a $77 USD RRP.

Solo-Man Temple Squares by Game Tile Warehouse
Our buddy Kris from the Game Tile Warehouse is at it again, with yet more awesome tabletop game tiles, this time for Dungeon Mapping. His project "Solo-Man Temple Squares" is now on Kickstarter. If you're a tabletop role-player, definitely check these out. Melbourne based, support Aussie designers.

Town Squares card game by Darren Ballingall
Game designer Darren Ballingall still has his project “Town Squares” up. We reported on “Town Squares” last week, but as it’s a Melbourne based project we’re mentioning it again. Support Australian game design and be sure and check out the Kickstarter for Town Squares.
