Tabletop Game News of the Week – Gameapalooza Round Up for 14 December through December 20, 2015

It’s almost time for the big man in red to slip down chimney’s – for those who celebrate the season – and for many, that means new games HUZZAH! For now though let’s take a look at the big news stories in tabletop gaming of the last week or so. As always we’ll update through to Sunday if something earth shattering happens over the weekend.

Zev Shlasinger, the founder of Z-Man Games is leaving the company. He made the announcement on his Facebook page stating: “This is a note to let everyone know that as of Jan 15, 2016 I will no longer be working for Z-Man/F2Z Entertainment. A long chapter has closed in my life but I am confident that a new one will begin soon. So this isn’t a goodbye, as I expect to stay in the industry and plan to explore my options to that effect. Onwards and upwards!”

“Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms” is getting a new board game titled “Tyrants of the Underdark”. This one sounds interesting because it comes to us from Rodney Thompson and Peter Lee, the guys behind “Lords of Waterdeep”. Expect it to hit mid next year.

“Talisman” is getting a nice new expansion in the form of “The Cataclysm”. The expansion gives players the chance to explore a new post-apocalyptic center board, featuring new denizens and items. “The Cataclysm” becomes available in the first quarter of 2016.

Fantasy Flight Games merged with Asmodee late last year and now Days of Wonder have joined the party. Business operations are being consolidated at Fantasy Flights HQ. It doesn’t overly affect gamers as such, mainly distribution.

A good news story: Crash Games is donating over one thousand new board games to “Toys for Tots”, a charity that gives toys to kids in need around the holidays. Lovely.

Why these are needed we’ll never know, but for those who care: UltraPro are releasing Emoji themed sleeve covers in February. Yup sleeves that go over your card sleeves, with Emoji’s on them…. because… no idea, but maybe you like them, so check them out at the UltraPro Site.

Splotter’s acclaimed fast food themed game “Food Chain Magnate” is set to get a U.S. release in February thanks to Passport Game Studios. This game has a lot of buzz around it, so this is great news.

“The Undercity: An Iron Kingdoms Adventure Board Game” is getting its first expansion in the form of “Black River Irregulars”. No word on pricing as of yet. It’s set for release mid 2016.

Fantasy Flight Games is releasing “Omens of Ice” a new expansion for “Elder Sign”. We reported on this one during the week, so you can check it out in full here.

Spotted on Kickstarter this week:

The sequel to Glenn Drover’s “Empires: Age of Discovery” is coming late next year in the form of science fiction themed “Empires: Galactic Rebellion”. It’s fully funded, but still has 19 days left, so get on over to KS if you want in.

Prepare your eyes for too much cuteness, with Mayday Games set to release “Dungeon Busters” next year. It’s presently on Kickstarter and ends January 2.

IELLO is set to release “Strategic Resupply” for “Heroes of Normandie”. You can check it out on Kickstarter.

And that fellow board gamers is that!
Enjoy your weekend and remember to play some games!
