Tabletop / board game news of the week! May 2 – 8, 2016
This week at the site we had a review of IELLOâs magical board game âThe Big Book of Madnessâ. We took a look at the new âPandemicâ game âPandemic: Iberiaâ, one weâre looking forward to. âFive Tribesâ has got a new mini-expansion coming out in the form of âFive Tribesâ The Thieves of Naqalaâ. Our man Vince put Renegade Games âFuseâ up against âEscape: The Curse of the Templeâ in our first Gameapalooza Head-2-Head Review and lastly we reviewed Days of Wonder board game âRelic Runnersâ.
Over on our YouTube Channel we had a bunch of unboxing videos go up for the cardboard voyeur. They were Skyliners, T.I.M.E. Stories: Under the Mask, Raptor, Quadropolis, Scoville Labs expansion. Lastly Mister Jaxon reviewed baseball game Bottom of the 9th.
Now letâs look at the rest of the tabletop game news we didnât quite get to this week.
Stonemaier Games officially announces Charterstone
Finally weâve got a little more info on âCharterstoneâ a game we mentioned a month ago in our news roundup. The official announcement tells us âCharterstoneâ is a semi-coop game that sees players colonising the lands by decree of the king. Players compete to construct buildings and populate a village. A legacy game, buildings become a permanent part of the game board, making them action spaces for all players. We like the sound of this one and given itâs from Stonemaier Games weâve got high hopes, itâs penned for a 2017 release.
Aussie designer Sye supporting Beyond Blue
Want to learn fun new games? Australian game designer Sye Robertson will be running a demo table all day at the Games Lab in Melbourne. This is a charity event for Beyond Blue, so if you can make it, do. Sye will be teaching Robots & Rockets, and will even have a few copies to give out courtesy of Rule & Make! We liked Robots & Rockets when we reviewed it, so if youâre lucky enough to be in Melbourne, you can rock up to 328 Little Lonsdale St, Sunday from 11am and get in on the action. More info at their Facebook Page.
New Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game expansion
The ongoing Star Wars miniatures Game cash train keeps chugging along with Fantasy Flight set to release a new expansion courtesy The Force Awakens. Youâll be able to get Poe Dameronâs âBlack Oneâ (a black and orange X-Wing complete with BB-8) and the Millennium Falcon. Both look pretty sweet (check them out below).
There she is, the Falcon and Poe’s wicked black and orange X-Wing. Releasing Q3.
Spotted on Kickstarter this Week
Dark Souls: The Board Game is smashing it!
Itâs safe to say the âDark Souls: The Board Gameâ is rather popular, with it smashing 2.1 million dollars with 10 days still to go on Kickstarter. âDark Souls: The Board Gameâ is a strategically challenging, deeply immersive combat exploration game for 1-4 players and itâs based on a popular video game franchise. If you havenât backed it yet thereâs still plenty of time, itâs £80 (plus shipping) for the base pledge, thatâs around $160AUD.
13th Age Campaign Coins / Tokens going well
As we mentioned in last weeks news roundup, Melbourne based tabletop game coin company Campaign Coins has their new Kickstarter up in the form of metal coins and tokens for tabletop RPG “13th Age”. Once more we’re saying as this is an Aussie project, maybe take a minute to head over to the project page and take a look (we have some of their previous coins and the quality is amazing).
Terrainosaurus game tiles
Also mentioned in last weeks news roundup, Kris from the Game Tile Warehouse is back on Kickstarter with his new project Terrainosaurus, all-purpose terrain tiles including: Forest, Snow, Jungle and Desert tiles. As with Krisâs other work, these look great, so if you need terrain for your tabletop games, be sure and check them out. We’ve spoken with Kris before and he’s a passionate gamer based in Melbourne, so we urge you to take a look at his stuff.
Cat Box by Grail Games
Another reminder that Grail Games still has âCat Boxâ up on Kickstarter, This looks pretty darn cute and Grail Games is an Aussie outfit, so be sure and check out the project page for that one.
Vivarium – A wild strategy board game for 2-5 species
Aussie Corey Le Mesurier has his project up on Kickstarter in the form of “Vivarium”, “a strategy board game for 2-5 players where you begin the game as a species fighting for survival inside a new environment. Equipped with just your instincts and fears, you must utilize your species unique abilities and adapt in order to survive”. Gotta say this looks really nice, though we haven’t played it. Still, it’s an Aussie designer, so be sure and check it out.
And that dear readers is your tabletop game news for this week. As always we’ll update here with the news of the week in video format and any other tabletop game news that occurs before Monday. Have an awesome weekend of board gaming and we will see you back here on Monday!
