Congratulations to the winners of the 2017 Spiel des Jahres and Kinnerspiel des Jahres.

Spiel des Jahres

He has come close before but now Bruno Cathala has the prize in his hands (so to speak). The beloved designer of such games as Shadows over Camelot, Mr. Jack, Five Tribes, and recent hit Yamatai, Cathala shows that he is in form and going to be around for a long time to come. Kingdomino won against Magic Maze and El Dorado.
Kingdomino plays 2-4 in about 20 minutes and is published by Blue Orange Games.

Kennerspiel des Jahres

This is the first time a series of games has won. Exit room styled board games are very popular right now. The first three games published by Kosmos play 1-6 people have a one-time playing time of 90 minutes. This stood against tough competition taking down Raiders of the North Sea and Terraforming Mars.

Kinderspiel des Jahres

This is no surprise as the Kinderspiel is always announced weeks earlier because... reasons. A fun little dexterity it seemed a likely choice to me considering how pictures of people playing Ice Cool exploded across my Instagram account months ago. It is highly popular and has found a great deal of love even among my own gaming group.
Ice Cool is designed by Brian Gomez and published by Brain Games and plays 2-4 players in about 20 minutes.

Congratulations to all the winners.
