The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 board game info:

Well Mondo took us all by surprise this morning by officially announcing The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 the board game. Usually we'd be a little dubious of a movie tie-in that's connected to USAopoly, but so far, this one looks and sounds pretty good.

The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 comes to us via Mondo and USAopoly’s designer games division, Project Raygun. It's set to release to retail this October and for whatever reason will be releasing a special limited edition via their website (which will no doubt get hammered).

If you're familiar with the movie The Thing by John Carpenter - and why wouldn't you be, it's epic! - you'll know the story. If not, The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 takes place at an Antarctic research station where an alien lifeform has taken to mimicking the workers within by assimilating with them.

Players are in a race against time to discover who has been infected and who has not. If The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 manages even a little of the paranoia and tension from within the movie, this could actually be a good game.

"Mondo brought more than their storied design acumen to the table," said Joe Van Wetering, Creative Design and Game Development at Project Raygun. "Thanks to their deep understanding and reverence for THE THING, they helped define the tone and shape the game play itself. INFECTION AT OUTPOST 31 reflects a true collaboration between our two brands resulting in a game that will excite table top and film aficionados alike."

Here's hoping Mondo can do the subject justice, it could turn out to be chest bitingly good if they do.
