Wakanda Tabletop Game Written Review

Wakanda is a 2 Player game in which players build adorable totem poles in little villages. Each village features points based on what pieces make up the totem pole. Example, if you manage to build a totem pole with so many of a particular symbol in it that's stated on the village tile you've claimed, then you will score whatever that village bonus is.

Players get three totem pole toppers each, one blue set (wings) and one red set (crests). The village tiles are laid out in the center of the play area, three in play and three turned side on waiting to open as play dictates (6 tiles are used in the game, but there are 8 in the game altogether). Players take it in turns drawing totem pieces blindly from a draw bag. As totem poles are completed, new villages will come into play.

You need to ensure you're placing your pieces on the particular village cards that will score best for you at the end of the game. Then the trick is to know when to claim a village by topping it with your colored topper, before the other player does. So there's a little strategy to be had here, even though this is an extremely light little game.

At the end of a round players add up all the points accrued and the winner is the person with the most points.

Wakanda is a lovely little game with gorgeous wooden totem pieces, good quality village tiles and a nice screenprinted bag with the logo of the game. It's the kind of quality we've come to expect from Blue Orange Games.

Wakanda is a little thinky, but it's not going to be for all gamers. We're looking at a great quality, small footprint, quick to play, light game here.

If you like the idea of the theme or you're looking for a little game to introduce to new gamers too, you could do worse than Wakanda.
